Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional)
  • 1 cup mixed dried fruits (raisins, currants, chopped apricots)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg one at a time; mix in brandy if using.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in dried fruits until evenly distributed.
  7. Scoop dough onto prepared sheets about two inches apart and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown around the edges.
  8. Cool on wire racks before serving.
