Description

A delicious and easy pan-seared salmon recipe with smoky spices.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound salmon (skin-on, cut into fillets about 4oz each; skinless if preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 tablespoon melted to rub the fish, 1 tablespoon for cooking in the pan)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme

Instructions

  1. Dry the salmon completely and allow it to come to room temperature for 15 minutes.
  2. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of melted butter onto both sides of the salmon.
  3. Combine the spices in a bowl and sprinkle them over the salmon, seasoning all sides.
  4. Heat a cast iron or stainless steel skillet on medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
  5. When the butter has melted, add the salmon to the pan, skin-side up, being careful not to overcrowd.
  6. Cook the salmon for 2-4 minutes until the sides turn opaque; monitor closely for the right time to flip.
  7. Flip the salmon and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  8. Remove from the pan and cool before serving.
