- Mix the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Make the chocolate base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and vegetable oil. Stir until well combined and glossy. It will resemble thick, wet sand.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture. The dough will be thick and sticky—that’s perfect. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours, or until firm.
- Preheat and prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll and coat: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of chilled dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball generously in powdered sugar until completely coated. This is what creates the classic crinkle look!
