Description

Delicious homemade stuffing made with unseasoned stuffing cubes, Italian sausage, and a medley of vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups store-bought unseasoned stuffing cubes (about 14 ounces)
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 medium yellow onions (finely diced)
  • 2 celery stalks (finely diced)
  • 2 granny smith apples (finely diced, you can peel them if you want)
  • 1 cup fresh sliced mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 Tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • ½ teaspoon poultry seasoning (optional, but use it if you have it!)
  • 1 pound spicy Italian sausages (casings removed, you can also use sweet Italian sausage)
  • 1½ cups chicken stock

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉.
  2. Place the unseasoned stuffing cubes in a large bowl.
  3. In a large non-stick skillet on the stovetop over medium heat, add the butter and let it melt. Add in the onion, celery, apples, mushrooms, parsley, salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning. Sauté for about 10 minutes or until the vegetables are tender. Dump the skillet ingredients on top of the bread cubes in the bowl.
  4. Using the same skillet, add in the sausage and brown it over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until the sausage is cooked through. Use a wooden spatula or chop stir to break up the sausage as it cooks. Drain grease, if desired. Add the cooked sausage to the large bowl of stuffing and vegetables.
  5. Pour the chicken stock over all the ingredients and stir so that all ingredients are moistened.
  6. Spread mixture into a 9×13” pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until browned on top.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • This stuffing pairs well with roasted turkey or chicken.
  • Feel free to customize the vegetables according to your preference.
  • Leftover stuffing can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
