Description

This brined turkey recipe ensures a moist and flavorful bird, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns
  • 4 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 4 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 2 oranges, sliced
  • 2 lemons, sliced
  • 1 gallon water
  • 1 gallon cold water or ice

Instructions

  1. In a large stockpot, combine kosher salt, brown sugar, bay leaves, peppercorns, rosemary, thyme, garlic, oranges, lemons, and 1 gallon of water.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until salt and sugar are dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely.
  4. Add 1 gallon of cold water or ice to the cooled brine to bring the total volume to 2 gallons.
  5. Place thawed turkey in a brining bag or large container and pour the cooled brine over it, ensuring the turkey is fully submerged.
  6. Seal and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours.
  7. Remove turkey from brine, rinse thoroughly with cold water, and pat dry with paper towels.
  8. Roast turkey according to your preferred method.

Notes

  • For best results, brine the turkey for 24 hours.
  • Make sure the turkey is completely thawed before brining.
